What is Shelby Youth Sports Mission Statement? It is the mission of Shelby Youth Sports (SYS) to provide safe, affordable, after school sporting activities along with an education of life skills. To enhance quality of life for the communities, while building memories that will last a lifetime. It is the purpose of SYS to instill to its youth a competitive spirit, not only in sports, but life as well.

When did Shelby Youth Sports Start? Beginning in 1968 as the Shelby Big 8 and incorporating in 1973 as Shelby Youth Sports, SYS has grown to encompass 13 Mid-South Areas. Shelby Youth Sports (SYS) is a non-profit 501c3 grass roots community based youth sports athletic association located all across the City of Memphis, Shelby and Tipton Counties in Tennessee. With over 3000 participants, ranging in ages 5 - 15, SYS has provided over the last 47 years a fun, safe, competitive and affordable experience for Mid-South youth to participate in Track & Field, Cheer-leading and Football. We represent one of the largest providers of community based after school sports programs in the Mid-South. Parent volunteers run each program. May of these parent volunteers are past participants. Their children are now the future of SYS, making them three generations of volunteers and participants in Shelby Youth Sports.

Why is Shelby Youth Sports Different? It is different than most other organizations in that we are governed by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives of each participating Area and an Executive Board. The Area representatives set rules, policies and guidelines for the sports and management of the Association. The Executive Board is responsible for the administration of these rules, as well as the day-to-day operations of SYS. We think this creates a great organization; one that is reacting to the changing needs of our most important component...THE YOUTH PARTICIPANTS!!!
